Schedule Pick-Up Information for 21-22 School Year

What to Expect at Schedule Pick Up: 
[Note that safety protocols of social distancing, a limit of one legal guardian/student, masks, and other precautions will be enforced.]

Verification of Student Data
In order to maintain accurate student records, you will be asked to review information on the Census Verification Report for your child, making any changes in mailing address, telephone numbers, medical providers, or emergency contacts.  Incoming sixth grade parents will also need to complete a health information form so student health records can be updated for their secondary school years.  [If you have returned this information over the summer, this step can be skipped.

Payment of Student Fees
The payment of fees can be done on site during our Schedule Pick Up days.  Acceptable forms of payment on site are personal check or cash.  Prepayment of fees using a credit or debit card can be completed by accessing your child’s fee page through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal  (Infinite Campus Parent Portal Online Fee Payment Steps) beginning August 1.  [Please bring a copy of your payment receipt with you.]  At this time we cannot accept credit or debit card payments on site during Schedule Pick Up.

Students fees assessed include:

Registration Fee (required)
This $22 fee covers partial cost of a student planner, assembly programs, towel services for physical education, and some team-sponsored activities. 


Other Optional Fees:

The John Muir yearbook is called The Highlander and is distributed at the end of the  school year. It is a great way to remember events and people for years to come. The cost for the all color, hardcover book is $25.

Physical Education Supplies
Students will need a John Muir gym shirt, shorts and appropriate shoes for all physical education classes. A gym shirt will be available for $8. Shirts from previous years can be used.  Students must purchase a lock for their gym locker from the PE Department for $6, which will also be available during Schedule Pick Up. We ask that all students use this district-issued lock so that we can maintain a master list of combinations.  Locks purchased from John Muir in previous years can be used, and the same lock can be used at Wausau West High School.  A one-piece swimsuit is also needed for swimming classes.

Chromebook Insurance
All students are issued a Chromebook to be used as an instructional tool over the course of the school year.  The Chromebook, charger, case, and ID card are issued at no cost.  However, should you wish to purchase insurance coverage for any damage that may occur over the course of the school year, the cost for this coverage is currently $20.  This covers the cost of the first two repairs at no additional cost and any subsequent repairs at half their cost.  There is a family cap on the cost of device insurance so families pay the lowest three total insurance enrollment fees.

Athletic Fees
Participation in an interscholastic sport requires a $30 user fee for EACH sport. This fee is separate from the registration fee.  We will only be accepting fees for Fall Sports during the Schedule Pick Up process.

Other Fees
Other possible fees include elective course fees or outstanding fees carried over from previous school years.

Transportation Information Available

Representatives from First Student and MetroRide will be available during Schedule Pick Up days. First Student offers an online registration option.  [First Student Online Transportation]  Students living in rural areas will receive their route instructions directly from the First Student bus driver.  Students who live in the city, but two or more miles from John Muir, can pick up bus tickets and route schedules from the MetroRide representative before school begins. All other students wishing to ride the city bus can purchase bus tickets or a monthly pass. The costs are currently 10 tickets for $9.50 or monthly-unlimited ride passes for $21.  Checks should be made out to MetroRide.

Lunch Account/School Nutrition Services Information Available
John Muir maintains a closed campus for the school day, including lunch. Students may bring a lunch, or they may purchase a lunch at school for $2.70 per day. Breakfast is also available before the start of the school day for $1.55. Ala carte items are available for both lunch and breakfast. Families who feel they qualify for either free or reduced lunch/breakfast MUST fill out the form available at school during Schedule Pick Up or online by following this LINK.

ID/Yearbook Photo Taken
Each student will have their “traditional” student photograph taken during Schedule Pick Up.  This photo will be used for both their student ID card and as their portrait for the yearbook.  Students who are not photographed at Schedule Pick Up will have an alternate photo taken for their ID card in our Student Services Office and will need to be present on our picture re-take day (September 23) for their yearbook photo.  Photo packages are purchased directly from Lifetouch Photography.

Pick Up Schedule/Hallway Locker Assignment
Students will be assigned a hallway locker when they pick up their schedules. These lockers are to be used for storing school supplies and personal items necessary for use at school. Lockers are the property of the school and may be opened and inspected by school administrators at any time. School personnel may take possession of any item in a locker which violates any Wisconsin law or school policy.

You are welcome to bring school supplies when you come to Schedule Pick Up.  After picking up your child’s schedule, you are free to place those items in their locker at any point before the first day of school. 

In an effort to maintain the new condition of our lockers and ensure their looks and durability for years to come, nothing is to be taped or attached on the outside of the locker.  NO CONTACT PAPER is to be used inside the locker! (It leaves behind a sticky residue and is very difficult to clean.)  All items inside the lockers need to be secured with magnets.

We kindly ask that you refrain from using any type of tape on the inside of the lockers. If tape is used, it must be “painter tape,” which can be purchased at most discount or home improvement stores.  Items are not to be stored on top of the banks of lockers.
