History & Information
Named for the famed naturalist and conservationist, John Muir and his family emigrated to America from Scotland in 1849 at the age of 11. The Muir family settled in the wilderness of central Wisconsin. When he was 22 years old he began studying at the University of Wisconsin. He remained a man of the wilderness until his death in 1914.
John Muir Middle School was erected in 1960 and opened its doors as a junior high school in the 1961-1962 school year. An addition opened in the 1995-1996 school year. The campus currently serves over 1,000 students in grades 6-8. The school mascot is the Highlander, and our school colors are royal blue, white, and black.
